Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a regular press conference on December 25 that the "1992 Consensus" clearly defines the nature of cross-strait relations and is the political foundation for the development of cross-strait relations and the mainstay of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

At the press conference, a reporter asked: Kuomintang Vice Chairman Xia Liyan said in an interview a few days ago that the "1992 Consensus" is a vague word and there is no difficulty or harm in using it. The only problem of not using it is that the "1992 Consensus" has been stigmatized by the Democratic Progressive Party; everyone wants to find other arguments to replace the "1992 Consensus", but unfortunately they can't find it. What are your comments on this?

Chen Binhua said that the history of cross-strait relations has repeatedly proved that if the "1992 Consensus" is recognized and the one-China principle is adhered to, cross-strait relations can be improved and developed, and Taiwan compatriots can benefit; if the "1992 Consensus" is denied and the one-China principle is deviated from, cross-strait relations will be tense and turbulent, and the interests of Taiwan compatriots will be damaged. We hope that all sectors of the island will move forward with us, adhere to the "1992 Consensus" that embodies the one-China principle, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, jointly maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, jointly promote the peaceful development and integration of cross-strait relations, and jointly commit to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
