Honors of Chinese Zongzi

The earliest on Earth

In September 1988, the Cultural Relics Department of De'an County, Jiangxi Province found two real Zongzi in an ancient tomb of the Song Dynasty. According to textual research, this is the first real Zongzi found in the world.

The ancient tomb is located on the outskirts of De'an County and was buried in 1274 AD. The tomb owner took a 40 cm peach branch with two prismatic Zongzi hanging on it in his right hand.

Zongzi is 6cm long and 3cm wide. It is tied on both sides of peach branches, with zongzi leaf as its outer skin and ramie as its bundle. Experts said that early Zongzi was intended as a memorial ceremony and was placed in coffins to show the mourning of relatives. The two Zongzi are paired, symbolizing good luck.

The oldest history

The honey cooled Zongzi in Xi'an is contained in Tang Weijuyuan's Recipe. The characteristic is to use only glutinous rice, without filling, cook it and let it cool. When eating, use silk thread to make thin slices, and pour honey and yellow osmanthus sauce - white sugar marinated osmanthus sauce.

Maximum volume

Da Rou Zong is produced in Nanning, Guangxi, weighing about two pounds each. It is filled with fatty pork and mung beans, and has a fragrant, soft, sweet, and plump texture. The largest Zongzi appeared in Guangxi. It is a large square cage with plantain leaves in it. It contains 50 kilograms of glutinous rice washed and mixed with soy sauce, and then it is mixed with the meat of a pig leg that has been skinned and cut into small squares. The surface is covered with plantain leaves and steamed after water. This Zongzi is called "Kou Zongba", which can be eaten by three people in a family for two months. According to Hong Kong media, there are nine elderly people in Hong Kong who once made a 36kg Zongzi for 250 people. On the Dragon Boat Festival in 1989, Changhua County, Taiwan, produced an extra large Zongzi, weighing 350 kg. The Zongzi made in Guangdong is very large. After cooking, one Zongzi was brought to the table, and four young people could not eat it.

Minimum volume

The smallest Zongzi is located in Chenghuang Temple, Green Wave Corridor and Lake Pavilion in Shanghai. About an inch long, shaped like a pillow, filled with ham, small and fresh; Huxin Pavilion thinks tea and food are wonderful.
