The Story of Duzhenwan

Duzhenwan stories cover myths and legends, life stories, ghosts, foxes, ghosts and other fields, including conspiracy, good and evil, kindness and hatred and other different types. The stories of Duzhenwan, represented by the stories of Fifteen Streams, have a large number of narrators and distinct features. Since ancient times, villagers here have attached great importance to education.

The Duzhenwan story declared by Changyang Tujia Autonomous County of Hubei Province has been listed in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage with the approval of the State Council.

historical origin

According to incomplete statistics, there were eight Gongsheng students in the late Qing Dynasty. The Li family of Taijitou alone had three Gongsheng in nine years. At that time, every Gongsheng was granted by the court for three years to show its glory. So far, there are still stories about the family that kept the flagpole from falling for nine years. Now, in the village of Shiwuxi, we can see many stone pedestals that used to cross the flagpole. The father of Li Zijun, a well-known revolutionary martyr, is a famous local patron. It is precisely because of the drive and influence of such a group of literati that the folkways here are simple, with sages in mind, with local culture and many stories.

Inheritance status

There are many storytellers in Duzhenwan Town, among which there are more than 700 people who can tell stories in 15xi Village (registered in the county). Among them, there are more than 200 people who can tell more than 50 stories and 5 people who can tell more than 200 stories. They are "rare rich mine of folk culture". It is reported that this Tujiashan village has been listed as a "key protected area" in Yichang City, and the declaration of a national "folk tale village" is in progress. The National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences Planning has established the "Folk Narrative Tradition and Story Heritage Research - the Heritage of Folk Stories in Duzhenwan, Changyang City, Hubei Province" as a social science fund project, which is also the only research project supported by the National Social Science Fund of Yichang City.
