Hotel history
On May 7, 2004, the Kadoorie family officially announced its investment in Shanghai Peninsula Hotel. This is the first time that it has returned to Shencheng after more than fifty years'absence from Shanghai, continuing its "100-year love affair" with Shanghai. It is reported that Hong Kong Shanghai Hotel Co., Ltd. was established in 1866, and opened in Hong Kong and Shanghai at the same time. By 1924, it had owned three of the most luxurious hotels in Shanghai at that time. After World War II, Hong Kong Shanghai Hotel Company Limited sold all its shares in the mainland to leave Shanghai and turned to the Hong Kong Peninsula as the flagship symbol of the hotel company.
The Shanghai Peninsula Hotel Project, located at 31 Zhongshan East Road in Shanghai, is the first project initiated in the Bund Source Project. It is planned to start construction this year and be completed and operated around 2008.
