Jining is the world-famous town of Confucius and Mencius and the capital of the canal. Located 6 kilometers south of Jining City, Shandong Province, Beihu Lake is a new tourist attraction in Shandong Province, which integrates recreation, leisure, vacation, water sports and aquaculture. It is known as a pearl in the southwest of Shandong Province. In 1996, it was approved as a provincial tourism resort by Shandong Provincial People's Government. North Lake is located at the junction of Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan and Anhui provinces. It faces the mighty Weishan Lake in the south, Mount Tai in the north, Qufu in the east, the hometown of Confucius, and Poliang Mountain in the west. It faces Heze, the "hometown of peony". The Beihu Lake area has superior geographical location and convenient transportation.

Development history

Xiaobeihu Lake, located six kilometers south of Jining, Shandong Province, is the largest freshwater lake in northern China. It is at the end of Nansi Lake. In order to develop aquaculture, it was built in 1973 to enclose the lake. It has a total area of 18,000 mu, including 16,000 mu of water surface. With the East Lake, West Lake and South Lake, it is called the "Four Lakes of China".

Beihu Lake has a wide water surface, fresh air and pleasant climate. Every midsummer tens of thousands of mu of lotus blossoms compete to open, a fascinating scene of "endless green lotus leaves in the sky, different red lotus flowers in the sun".

In 1995, Comrade Zhao Zhihao, then Secretary of the Shandong Provincial Party Committee, visited Beihu Lake and wrote a personal inscription of "Beihu is picturesque".

Since 1992, Jining City and Rencheng District have held lotus festivals here every year, where guests and friends from home and abroad gather to watch the lake and watch lotus, boating and fishing.

In 1994, the Four Lakes Friendship Association of China was established here. At the same time, the annual meeting of West Lake of Hangzhou, South Lake of Jiaxing, East Lake of Wuhan and North Lake of Jining was held. Jining City and Rencheng District have continuously increased their investment in Beihu Lake, successively built Beihu Road and Lotus Avenue from the urban area to Beihu Lake, opened an air tour airport, purchased more than 500 yachts and yachts, set up fishing centers, built 50,000 square meters of lake swimming pool, set up swimming, surfing, kayaking and other water sports projects, and also prospered. A number of shops, restaurants and other service facilities have been built.

In 1996, the municipal governments at both levels invested more than 50 million yuan to strengthen the infrastructure construction of Beihu Lake, built a 12-kilometer highway around the lake, built and strengthened eight lake-centered islands, excavated more than 10 waterways, and set up a number of new scenic spots, such as the reed maze, to complete the power, post and telecommunications projects around the Lake and to the lake-centered island. The second phase of "tourist resort" and "Canal Cultural Landscape" will start soon. Beihu Lake is under comprehensive development and construction, among which the development and construction of Huxin Island, Yingbin Island and Huludao will add to the new look of Beihu Lake.

Beihu Lake is located east by the ancient canal and west by the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal, forming the trend of "double rivers embracing lakes". Xiaobeihu Lake has abundant water, abundant sunshine, rippling green waves, plentiful grasses and fishes, beautiful lotus flowers, beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. The lake is rich in Wuchang fish, carp, eel, carp, turtle, shrimp, hairy crab and so on.

The levees in the lake area are straight and the water depth is 1.5-2 meters. The source and bottom are flat. There are seven islands in the lake. Every year the lotus fair in Jining is held here, attracting a large number of foreign visitors to enjoy lotus, fishing, sightseeing and tourism.

Ecological resources

The water surface area of Beihu Lake is four times that of West Lake in Hangzhou. The water surface is wide, the air is fresh and the climate is pleasant. In midsummer, ten thousand mu of lotus blossoms compete to open, a fascinating scene of "endless green lotus leaves, different red lotus reflecting the sun".

Beihu Lake is rich in natural resources, with more than 80 species of fish and 200 species of bird habitats. It is an important freshwater fish and lake product base in Shandong Province.

Since 1992, Lotus Festival has been held for many years. The guests and friends at home and abroad gather here to watch the lake and watch lotus and go boating and fishing.

In 1994, Beihu initiated the establishment of "China Four Lakes Fellowship" which was attended by West Lake of Hangzhou, South Lake of Jiaxing, East Lake of Wuhan and North Lake of Jining, and developed into "China Lakes Fellowship".

There are more than 80 species of fish, 300 species of benthic zooplankton and aquatic vascular plants in Beihu Lake. Rich in crucian carp, grass, silver carp, carp, Wuchang fish, Mandarin fish, turtle, shrimp, hairy crab and lotus, snail, clam, water chestnut and other valuable Lake products, Jining City people's main source of freshwater fish and lake products.
