The composition of the wild fauna in Leshan City is located in the transitional zone between the Palaearctic realm and the Oriental realm. It is mainly composed of the southwest region and central China region of the Sino Indian subregion in the Oriental realm. There are 599 species of vertebrates belonging to 112 families and 37 orders. Among them, there are 80 species in 25 families of 8 orders. Most of them are mountain forest animals and secondary forest shrub animals. There are 326 species (345 species and subspecies) of birds belonging to 49 families and 17 orders. Birds which are closely related to human activities and live in farming environment are dominant. There are 39 species of reptiles belonging to 10 families and 2 orders. There are 36 species in 10 families of 2 orders. There are 118 species in 18 families of 8 orders, accounting for about half of the fish species in Sichuan Province. Among the wildlife under national first-class protection, there are 9 species of national first-class protected animals, such as giant panda, takin, snow leopard, clouded leopard, leopard, tiger, Sichuan partridge, green tailed pheasant, white sturgeon, and so on.
