As of June 2013, the group operated 45 hotels in 27 countries around the world (some of which are in preparation), including 19 hotels in Asia, 12 in the United States and 14 in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is committed to becoming one of the world's top luxury hotel groups to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction. This will be achieved through investment in facilities and human resources strategies, while maximizing profits and shareholder equity. The group is often rewarded for its outstanding service and quality management. The Group's development strategy is to operate 11,000 rooms in business centers and major resorts.

Its parent company, Mandarin Oriental International Limited, was established in Bermuda. It was first registered in London and then in Bermuda and Singapore. Mandarin Oriental International Limited, based in Hong Kong, manages the hotel business of the group and is a member of Jardine Matheson Group.

Company history

Founded in 1963, the flagship store is located in the "Mandarin Hotel" on Chateau Road, Hong Kong Island.

In 1974, Mandarin International Hotel Co., Ltd. was established to manage its Hong Kong hotel business and expand into an international hotel group, including the acquisition of Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 1985, it was reorganized as "Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group"

On June 8, 1987, it became a listed company in Hong Kong under the name of Mandarin Oriental International Limited.

In 1995, owing to doubts about the future of the British parent company, it moved to Bermuda and became a listed company in New York and Singapore.

September 1998: Mandarin Oriental Headquarters moved from Chateau Road in Central to 287 Gloucester Road in Causeway Bay.

On January 20, 2009, Sindh Group and Mandarin Hotel Group sold Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Macau, each with 50% equity, to Macao Tourism and Entertainment Co., Ltd. for HK$1.6 billion. Mandarin Hotel will earn HK$75 million, or HK$580 million, after tax.

In August 2009, Heston Blumenthal, the three-star chef God of Michelin, will open a restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hyde Park and offer 24-hour meal delivery service to its guests. The Fat Duck restaurant hosted by Blumenthal has won many awards and is well known all over the world. The plan will be unveiled in the autumn of 2010 at the award-winning Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hyde Park, London.
