In the autumn of 1991, Zhang Hongjie was invited by the crew of the TV drama romance of the Three Kingdoms to act as assistant director.

In 1994, Zhang Hongjie was favored by the head of Jilin quyi troupe and transferred from Gongzhuling to Changchun. In the same year, Du Lijuan, the screenwriter of the film "Jiuxiang", went to Jilin quyi troupe to find an actor. After being recommended, she found Zhang Hongjie.
