Zhou Manhua (1922-february 15, 2013), born in Peiping, was born in Pudong, Shanghai. He was a famous film actor in the period of the Republic of China.

Zhou Manhua, a tailor and beauty, is an actor. Originally from Pudong, Shanghai, he was born in Beiping in 1922. My father is a tailor. In 1935, he played the role of a child in the movie "loyal soul" produced by the star film company, and later took part in the shooting of "night party", "women's rights" and other films. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, he performed in Chongqing and other places with the Shanghai Film troupe. In 1938, he returned to Shanghai and starred in "the story of red apricot coming out of the wall" and "the family of golden powder" in Datong, Guohua and other film companies. Later, he made many films in "China United" and "China Film". He moved to Hong Kong in 1948. In the 1950s, he starred in Taishan, Shaoshi, Xinhua and other film companies, such as women's heart, blue blood and yellow flowers, and made films in Taiwan. In 1962, the film disappeared. He has starred in more than 70 films. He won the 30th Golden Horse Award in 1993.

Zhou Manhua died on February 15, 2013 at the age of 91.

Zhou Manhua has two nicknames, one is "wax gourd beauty" and the other is "scissors Xishi". She is called "wax gourd beauty" because she has a plump wax gourd face (actually an oval face); she is called "scissors Xishi". It is said that her father used to be a tailor. In fact, "wax gourd" and "scissors" are just modifiers to show that Zhou Manhua is a beauty like Xi Shi. It's from Yanqiao. As a girl, Zhou Manhua spent her time in the countryside of Pudong, Shanghai. Since she was a child, she loved watching movies and was a "little movie fan". Zhou Manhua has an uncle who works in a star film company. Seeing that his niece is so obsessed with movies, he introduced her to the company as an actor.

In the early days of acting

Zhou Manhua's first work is "human relations". She just plays the role of "running the dragon" in the film, and there is no role creation. Next, she played supporting roles in night party, women's rights and mother's secret. When the "mother's Secret" was half shot, the "August 13" war broke out, and the star company was dissolved. Zhou Manhua joined the film company and toured the mainland to perform drama. At that time, the film troupe had 12 actresses and formed sisters together. Wu Yin was the eldest sister, Bai Yang was the ninth sister, and Zhou Manhua was the tenth sister. Half a year later, due to contradictions within the troupe, the actors left one after another, and Zhou Manhua returned to Shanghai.

At this time, the Shanghai Guohua film company was just established, and Zhou Xuan was the only one supporting the heroine. She was recruiting troops, so Zhou Manhua was invited to take part in Guohua's filming.

Zhou Manhua's famous work is "new hell", which is a comedy that exposes the dark reality of society. The main actors of "Guohua" (Zhou Xuan, Zhou Manhua, comfortable, Gong Jianong, Baiyun and Xu Feng) all come out, which makes the film win a high box office income.

At that time, in addition to the prevalence of costume films, romance novels were also moved to the screen. Zhou Manhua first accepted the invitation of Venus film company, and made a "Qinhuai family" (Zhou Manhua played Tang Xiaochun in the film), which caused a small sensation. So "Guohua" aimed at the momentum and adapted Liu YunRuo's "the story of the red apricot out of the wall", Gu Mingdao's "Xi Fenfei" and Zhang Henshui's "the family of golden fans" into films successively, which made a sensation. The heroine of these three films is Zhou Manhua. Her performance is close to life and has won the audience's love. Therefore, she became famous for her performance. Zhou Xuan and she became the "two pillars" of Guohua company. Zhou Manhua has made 15 films in Guohua company. As for her representative work, the first one should be "Jinfen family". "Jinfen family" was originally a popular novel by Zhang Henshui. When it came to the screen, it was made into two episodes. The film narrates the joys and sorrows of a wealthy couple (Jin Yanxi and lengqingqiu), and the plot is tortuous and moving. Zhou Manhua's role as Leng Qingqiu is appropriate, while LV Yukun's role as Jin Yanxi is extremely familiar. After the outbreak of the Pacific War, Guohua company was incorporated into the "Zoomlion" (later reorganized into "Huaying"), during this period, Zhou Manhua successively shot "Yan Hui", "angel in white", "spring", "fraternity", "Baiyun tower", "Xianggui Fengyun", "red confidant", "Fangcao bixue", "xiaofengcanyue", "hongyantiexue", "taohuatanshui", "don't ask for help", "marriage Symphony" and "Yingying" "Male beauty" and other 14 films.

When a reporter interviewed Zhou Manhua that year, he once asked, "which films are you satisfied with?" Zhou Manhua replied, "I'm more satisfied with not asking for help and the marriage symphony." "Don't ask for a man" is based on Pan Yuqi's novel "farewell", edited and directed by Zhu Shilin. The film describes the helplessness of a young couple's small family life. It is a comedy, which was selected as "best picture" in 1944. The marriage symphony is based on the novel "marriage duet" by Japanese writer Kikuchi Kuan, edited and directed by Yang Xiaozhong, and the male star is Yan Hua (father of Hong Kong famous movie star David Jiang).

No shadow

In 1944, Zhou Manhua married Wu Guozhang, a wealthy businessman, and retired from the film industry after marriage. In 1950, Zhou Manhua went to Hong Kong to continue filming, starring in more than ten films, including women and tigers, husband's diary, boudoir music, cash cow and female reporter. In 1953, Zhou Manhua went to Taiwan to settle down and invested in making films such as "the golden husband".

In 1961, Zhou Manhua and Wu Guozhang broke up and announced their divorce. The next year, he and Zhang, a producer of Taipei union pictures, got married. She announced her farewell to the film world when she guest starred in No.1 scholar and directed by Li Hanxiang.
