Guo Dongpo, former director of the overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, and director of the overseas Chinese Committee of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Guo Dongpo, a native of Shawang village, Yiling Town, Jiangdu City, was born into a poor peasant family in August 1937. He was admitted to Yangzhou middle school from a rural primary school in 1952, and was admitted to the Department of international trade of Beijing Institute of foreign trade (now University of foreign economic relations and trade) with excellent results in 1958. Guo Dongpo stayed in school to work after graduation. He once served as vice president of China Council for the promotion of international trade, vice president of China Chamber of international commerce, President of Macao Branch of Xinhua news agency, and vice chairman of Macao Basic Law Drafting Committee. In May 1995, he served as president of China Council for the promotion of international trade and President of China International Chamber of Commerce. He served as director of the overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council in July 1997. In March 2003, he served as a member of the Standing Committee of the 10th CPPCC National Committee and director of the Committee of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese. member of the seventh CPPCC National Committee, member of the eighth and Tenth CPPCC Standing Committee, alternate member of the 14th CPC Central Committee, member of the 15th CPC Central Committee.
