Ma Jianjun

Ma Jianjun (1959-1994), a Hui nationality from Manas County, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, participated in public security work in May 1979 and joined the Communist Party of China in November 1987. Before he died, he was the deputy director of urban police station of Manas County Public Security Bureau. On March 19, 1994, Ma Jianjun died at the age of 35 in the process of arresting the gangsters with knives.

Ma Jianjun was born on January 23, 1959 in a Hui family in Manas County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Manas County is located at the northern foot of Tianshan Mountain and the southern margin of Junggar basin. When Ma Jianjun learned of the theft, he immediately arranged for Liu Qilin to be on duty. He and Wang Guoning rushed to the scene of the crime. The two iron doors of the shoe store were half open. Ma Jianjun had just rushed to the door when two thieves, one tall and one short, were about to go out. A tall and burly policeman came in and subconsciously stepped back two steps. At the moment when Ma Jianjun reached out to grab a criminal's head, the two criminals stabbed Ma Jianjun's elbow and hip at the same time. Ma Jianjun covered the wound with his hand and squatted on the ground. The two criminals ran away. Wang Guoning chases after him to the door of the hardware store more than 100 meters away. His heroic behavior was warmly praised by the people of all ethnic groups, and the name of the hero resounded all over the Tianshan Mountains. On September 15, 1994, the people's Government of the autonomous region approved Ma Jianjun as a revolutionary martyr. On April 19, the Ministry of public security of the people's Republic of China Awarded Ma Jianjun the title of "national public security front level hero model". On April 28, the CPC Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Committee and the people's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region made the "decision on learning from Comrade Ma Jianjun", calling for an upsurge of learning from Ma Jianjun among the military and people of all ethnic groups in the region. On May 9, the Party committee and government of the autonomous region solemnly held a naming conference in Changji Prefecture to award Ma Jianjun the title of model. His wife Ma Xiaohong spoke at the conference, representing the call of the people of all ethnic groups. She said: "I hope that all people with a sense of social justice and conscience should be sober in their blood and tears, and remember the heavy price Ma Jianjun has paid.
