Growing up in a simple civil servant family, Zhang Chunfang stood out from more than 3000 people in the selection activity of China Film rookie, which her classmates secretly helped her apply for the examination. She became one of the ten trainees selected in the training class. At the same time, there are also famous movie stars such as Hu Huizhong, Liu Dekai, Su Mingming, Cui Haoran, Lin Meiling and so on. At that time, student films were popular. Zhang Chunfang did not stay in China film after her training. In 1979, she joined brilliant film company and became a basic actor. The first film, the boy who refused the joint examination, CO starred with Zhang Peihua and Peng Xuefen, immediately caused a sensation and successfully established Zhang Chunfang's position in student films. After that, Zhang Chunfang signed a three-year contract with Xu Jinliang's film company and appeared in many student films as a beautiful and sweet image.

After finishing her contract with brilliant film company, Zhang Chunfang took on the role of "the story of Xiao Bi" directed by Chen Kunhou, which inspired her real actor characteristics. In this film, Zhang Chunfang met the screenwriter Hou Xiaoxian.
