Zhang huoyou (1910-1985)

Zhang Ganyu, a native of Meixian County, Guangdong Province. He is a graduate of the second term of "Cantonese Opera Talent Training Institute" in Guangzhou Bahe guild hall. He was a junior actor (first supporting actor) in the "Xing Zhong Hua" Cantonese Opera Troupe in baiyutang.

In 1939, he joined the film industry and performed his first work, the broken copper net formation (1939), as a leading actor. During the period of the fall of Hong Kong, he performed Cantonese Opera everywhere to support himself. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, he returned to Hong Kong to work in film.

In 1952, with Wu Chufan and Bai Yan, he founded the famous "Zhonglian Film Enterprise Co., Ltd." his works include home (1953), spring (1953) and autumn (1954), broken dreams in spring (1955), romance of the west chamber (1956), Baolian lantern (1956) and Autumn in Ziwei Garden (1958). In 1954, Zhang huoyou and Bai Yan organized Shanlian film company. His masterpieces include yunniang (1954), pitiful parents (1960) and mad woman (1963).

Zhang huoyou's appearance is steady and honest. Most of his roles are modest and honest. The only exception is the villain Jin Yanluo in black rose and black rose (1966). Together with Wu Chufan, Zhang Ying and Li Qing, he is known as the "four big and small students" of Hong Kong Cantonese films and one of the founders of the South China film workers' Association in Hong Kong.

Acting experience

In 1939, he became a famous Cantonese actor in Hong Kong, starring in the first film Ghost House.
