Wang Yao
Wang Yao (1928-December 17, 2015), born in Lianshui, Jiangsu Province, studied in the Chinese Department of Nanjing University. He studied in the Central Institute for Nationalities in 1951 and studied under the famous linguist Mr. Yu Daoquan. He has been teaching in the university ever since. He used to be an honorary Dean of the Central Academy of Tibetan studies.
He used to be a visiting professor at odiliviena University, Bonn University in Germany and the University of Toronto in Canada. Now he is a professor, Tibetologist, ethnohistorian, counsellor of the State Council of the Central University for nationalities, a part-time professor of Peking University, a specially invited researcher of the Institute of Chinese Buddhist culture, and an editorial board member of the Journal of Tibetan historical documents of Bonn University (since 1981).

At 18:00 p.m. on December 17, 2015, Wang Yao, librarian of the Central Research Institute of literature and history and honorary president of the Institute of Tibetan studies of the Central University for nationalities, died in Beijing at the age of 87.

He is the author of zongkaba pingzhuan, Tibetan literature and history kaoxin collection (mainland edition and Taiwan Foguang Publishing House), and has published hundreds of papers.
