Zhou Yaohui

Zhou Yaohui graduated from the University of Hong Kong, majoring in English and comparative literature, and engaged in lyrics creation. Worked in government, Asian Arts Festival, Ming Pao and commercial radio. He moved to Holland in 1992 and worked in the local Chinese radio station. He is now assistant professor of Humanities at Hong Kong Baptist University.

In 1989, Zhou Yaohui started his career as a lyricist by creating "love when the plague spread" for the Daming school's "Yi Nan Ping". Since then, he has not only become one of the most closely cooperated Ci writers of the Daming school, but also an important senior ci writer in today's Chinese music world. He wrote many lyrics for Daming Yipai, Huang Yaoming, Xue Kaiqi, Mai Junlong, Lu qiaoyin and other singers. He moved to Holland in 1992 and worked in the local Chinese radio station.

Zhou Yaohui's Ci style is gorgeous and exquisite, wandering between the mainstream and non mainstream, with few pure love songs. Its rich connotation is amazing, and it is unique among many Chinese Ci writers. Liang Weishi, who admitted that he was a fan of Zhou Yaohui's Ci poetry, once said that "Lin Xi, Huang Weiwen and Zhou Yaohui are the three greatest poets in Hong Kong.

Description: Although many of the lyrics written by Zhou Yaohui are also love songs, the angle is completely different from that of Huang Weiwen. He often has a lot of questions, such as "the fifth modernization". He describes love as the fifth modernization. Between the lines, he has been questioning whether love can be modernized. And "only do one thing today" is also very interesting. Hong Kong is so busy and in a hurry. Is it possible to do only one thing every day? In fact, his lyrics are very profound, and there is a lot of room for people to continue to think.

Zhou Yaohui's famous works, such as "forget he is her", "suddenly", "color blindness", "Freud falls in love with Lin Xi", "Madonna kiss", "blind year" and "black and white", have unique ideas and profound cultural background. He dares to challenge the alternative theme and says that he likes to write sidecut more than the main song. His works have a brilliant conception, and the themes are often drawn from reality, involving a wide range of social, political, historical, religious, cultural, homosexual / heterosexual and so on. In his works, allegory, association, pun, quotation and other techniques are often used. His works can easily bring people into the unique atmosphere he creates, or even fall into a mysterious and oppressive atmosphere. Even Zhang Guorong once used to describe the feeling of reading his works as "living in a drunken dream".
