Wan Linmei was born in a worker's family in Xuancheng City, Anhui Province. She has loved singing since she was a child. From primary school to high school, she has always been the "pillar" of the school's literary and artistic activities. She especially likes to listen to Teresa Teng's songs. In order to learn to sing Teresa Teng's songs, she broke and repaired a dual card tape recorder in her family, repaired and damaged it She gradually became the "little Teresa Teng" on campus. The reputation of "little Teresa Teng" came to her parents' ears, and her parents, who had nothing to do with music, were also very puzzled. Her parents wanted her daughter to be a doctor or teacher, but they didn't want her daughter to jump on the stage. So, before graduating from high school, Xiaowan took her to Wuhu Anhui Normal University to find a music teacher to identify whether her daughter is the "material" for singing. As a result, the music teacher of Normal University identified the result: "your daughter's sound quality is very good, and the way of singing works...". When Wan Lin Mei was in high school, she dreamed of being a literary soldier in the army. After graduating from Anhui Normal University in 1995, she was admitted to the art troupe of the Political Department of Anhui Armed Police Corps with her beautiful voice and solid singing skills, realizing her wish.

In 2000, Wan Lin Mei was admitted to China Conservatory of music with her double first scores in cultural and professional courses. She studied national vocal music under the guidance of Professor Ma Xiuyun and Professor Jin Tielin, a famous vocal music educator in China. During the period of school, she studied hard. She was proficient in western bel canto, Chinese national singing, traditional opera, folk songs, etc. she was able to cut short and learn from others' strong points. She integrated all kinds of singing skills and applied them to different types of songs. As Professor Jin Tielin said when he went to Anhui to give lectures to vocal music experts, "Wan Linmei's timbre is very good, she can sing very well, and her singing is very ideological..."

As soon as she graduated from China Conservatory of music, she took part in the 10th National Young Singers competition held by CCTV. She sang an original song "the moon in my hometown".
