In 1938, he passed the special examination of "wartime civilian education training institute" in Fujian Province. After that, he obtained the same academic qualification as a junior college graduate and was assigned to Wuping County of Fujian Province as a wartime civilian education instructor.

When Kou Shiyuan was teaching in Minqing normal school in 1940, he had a sensational love affair with his student he Lixuan. In the end, they got engaged without public opinion. In 1941, during the war, all the teachers and students of the school were ordered to move in on foot. In order to make it convenient for their daily life, they published a statement in the newspaper that they would travel and get married. On May 1, they got married in Youxi County, Fujian Province. He Lixuan, born in a scholarly family and the only child in her family, has always regretted not having a grand wedding. It was not until their 50th golden wedding anniversary that they wore formal dresses. Eight couples of sons and daughters in law served as bridesmaids, and their granddaughters were flower children. They entered the church and swore their marriage again. Their long cherished wish was finally fulfilled.

In 1941, he was employed as the director of the war times of the 25th army group, the Central News Agency, Southeast daily and other news units. After the restoration of Taiwan in 1946, he was employed as a lecturer in the Taiwan provincial training group. After the February 28 Incident in 1947, Kou Shiyuan was arrested and released three weeks later. After the provincial training, he first taught at Jianguo middle school in Taipei, and then became the leader of a cultural institution.

In 1951, a colleague was implicated in espionage. He was jailed again and was released 126 days later.

In 1957, Kou Shiyuan resigned and became the preacher of lingliang hall in Taipei. He had a special burden on the preaching work in prison and hospital, because that was the place where he suffered and deeply understood the spiritual needs of people there. At the same time, he also taught in the seminary and served as the Christian Research Institute of CUHK for 10 years.

Since 1968, he has led several churches of the Lutheran Church to search Scriptures for many years. Therefore, he represented the Lutheran Church at the international conference in Norway in 1968. Shortly after returning to China, he left lingliang Tang, who had worked for 15 years, because he had different opinions with the director of lingliang Tang.

On the evening of January 23, 1969, fourteen Tongxin workers gathered at brother Wang Shouming's house to search scriptures. After that, everyone prayed together to seek God's will. Based on the vision in 1 Timothy 3:15, Kou Shiyuan proposed the idea of "the house of Christ.".

In July of the same year, the church system was formally established in the house of Christ, and Kou Shiyuan was selected as the supervisor to be responsible for the pastoral work. He often took into account the work of Scripture checking and lecturing in churches, as well as the teaching work in seminary and tertiary institutions. He has written more than 70 books, such as the way of life and scriptures, and often leads preaching, spiritual training, retreat and international evangelical conferences.

In December 1969, the consortium was established as a legal person. In 1978, Kou Jianzhu went to the United States to set up the first Jinshan Christian house; in 1984, he began to establish elders. In the following years, with the blessing and guidance of God, under the supervision of kow and the efforts of his colleagues, the house of Christ established six houses in the San Francisco Bay area one after another to honor the father.

In 1983, he saw the rapid development of the telecommunications industry and its influence was more extensive. The TV program "between heaven and man" was launched on Saturday afternoon to spread the gospel directly to Chinese families. The audience can reach thousands of people.

Kou Jianzhu has been weak and ill for a long time. He suffered from lung disease in his early years, peritonitis and hepatitis in his middle years, and heart disease in his later years. Because he worked hard for saints all the year round and his physical strength was seriously overdrawn, he suddenly died in Los Angeles in 1993 at the age of 74.
