Overseas Chinese building

It was built under the proposal of the famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee and is located in Wangfujing Street in Beijing.

Historical changes

The overseas Chinese building in Beijing was built on the initiative of the famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader Tan Kah Kee, hence its name. In the early days of liberation, Zhou Enlai promised overseas Chinese to build a home for them in Beijing. The overseas Chinese building in Beijing, built in the late 1950s, was one of the "top ten buildings in Beijing" in the 1950s. The existence or abolition of the overseas Chinese mansion has caused great controversy. After the completion of the old overseas Chinese building, the first group of guests were overseas Chinese from all over the country who came to Beijing to attend the 10th anniversary of the national day. Today, the name still exists, and the real object is hard to find. It is the smallest of the top ten buildings in the Republic of China. However, with the intervention of century Jinyuan group, the three big roofs of the overseas Chinese building are uneven, but it is hard to impress people among so many new buildings. Perhaps its significance lies more in the reconstruction of history.

In 1988, the old overseas Chinese building was demolished and rebuilt. The newly built overseas Chinese building was jointly designed by polimaka company of Finland and Beijing Architectural Design Institute and rebuilt with China Railway Corporation. It was reopened in 1992 and renovated in 2003. It is a business five-star hotel. Hu Shide, an expert in architectural structure, believes that due to limited investment, the original overseas Chinese building had a building area of 13343 square meters, while the new overseas Chinese building had a building area of 42000 square meters, which was three times the original. The main structure was supported by cast-in-place frame, and the guest rooms were very spacious and bright, which turned into a five-star hotel full of modern flavor. In the process of construction, a new method has been adopted: the original brick concrete structure has been changed into concrete structure, and the modern and mechanized construction method has been adopted.

New look of Huaqiao building

The new Beijing Overseas Chinese building is located on Wangfujing Street in the center of Beijing. It is close to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, Jingshan and Beihai. It is adjacent to the art museum, the capital theater and the General Administration of civil aviation.

In particular, the multi-function hall can accommodate 300 guests, and can be divided into three banquet halls with activity walls, which can provide wireless internet access and video conference facilities.
