The vaulting horse man, commonly known as "Shao Ma Fu Xiang", is a group dance of men around Rudong County, Jiangsu Province, which is specially dedicated to offering sacrifices to Zhang Xun (also known as Zhang Shicheng, the leader of peasant uprising at the end of Yuan Dynasty) during the God welcoming competition. The dance is particularly popular in Fengli, tunggang, chaoqiao and other places. It is said that Zhang Xun was a general of emperor suzong of Tang Dynasty. During the "an Shi rebellion", he led the people to guard the city for three years. In the desperate situation of no food and no horses, the soldiers and civilians tied the horse bell to their bodies and ran back and forth on the position. The horse bell made the enemy mistakenly think that they had come to help. But in the end, Zhang Xun died because he was outnumbered. Later, Emperor suzong of the Tang Dynasty granted Zhang Xun the title of "Dutian Wangye" and ordered the world to set up temples to offer sacrifices. The horse vaulter is a dance form for people in Rudong to sacrifice to dutianwangye.

When dancing, there are at least three or five hundred people, and more than three thousand people who "burn the incense of the horseman". They wear colorful cloth, yellow paper caps, horseman's clothes, straw sandals, bronze bells around their waists, horse cuttings with a length of more than one meter in hand and silver needles on their cheeks. In a solemn and mysterious atmosphere, they line up to dance vigorous and simple dances, and make a loud roar, jumping at Bodhisattvas such as "Lord Dutian" In order to express the memory of the heroes, the reverence for the spirit of indomitable struggle, and the desire of the gods to eliminate disasters and bring down blessings.
