Huidong Fishing Song is a kind of folk song which is popular in the coastal area of Huidong County, Guangdong Province. According to records, it was introduced to Huidong in the Song Dynasty and has a history of nearly a thousand years. The most primitive local fishermen are called "Danmin", also known as "houchuandanmin", which is a part of ancient Baiyue people in South China. They have been drifting on the sea for a long time, with a single mode of production and a very boring life. In this case, they learned to amuse themselves with songs and relieve their worries with songs.

There are 29 categories of Huidong fishing songs, among which the most important ones are ooooxiangdiao, ladaditudididudiao, Xiandi Diao and luoyindiao. There is a big difference between it and other folk songs. It is limited to be sung by fishermen on board, with solo, chorus and other forms. When fishermen live in groups, they often take "Dage" as music, "Dage" is "duel song", or "Douge", which is a kind of singing without musical instruments. The structure of the melody is mostly in the form of up and down sentences, one call and one response. The longest lyrics can go back and forth in the melody until the end. The melody of Huidong fisherman's songs is very chanting, the range is not wide, the music is short, and most of them have lining words and various forms of tunes. Most of its music is characterized by modes, sometimes adding the sixth tone (7) or even the seventh tone (4) on the basis of the pentatonic scale as the passing tone and the decorative melody. The expression is expressed through the narration of personnel and scenery, which gives profound enlightenment to the creation of modern lyrics.
