Guangxi Bayin, also known as "South Guangxi Bayin", is a kind of Chinese folk instrumental music. It is named "Bayin" because it uses eight kinds of musical instruments, such as drum, Gong, cymbal, flute, Xiao, string, Qin and human voice. It is mainly distributed in Nanning, Yulin, Guigang, Qinzhou, Wuzhou and Hezhou where Han, Zhuang and Yao people live together. Its melody is beautiful, loud and clear, and its performance style is warm and cheerful. It is rich in the local ethnic characteristics of Guangxi. It is an influential folk instrumental art in Guangxi, among which the eight tones of Yulin is the most representative.
Yulin, located in the southeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, was called "Yulin" in ancient times, and has been known as "a thousand year old state" since history. As early as the end of the primitive society, there lived tribes such as Xi'ou and Luoyue. When Qin Shihuang set up a county in the south of the five ridges, there was an administrative system in Yulin. At the end of Tang Dynasty and the beginning of Song Dynasty, the folk music of northwest border minorities began to spread to Guangxi, and soon spread to the south of Guangxi. Under the influence of these foreign folk music, the folk artists in southern Guangxi combined the local folk music elements, and created the folk instrumental music Guangxi Bayin with the local characteristics of southern Guangxi. Zhou qufei's answer to Ling Wai Dai in the Southern Song Dynasty and Yulin Zhou Zhi in the Qing Dynasty are recorded.
According to different regions, Guangxi Bayin can be divided into Yulin soft field Bayin, hard field Bayin, Nanning Zhuang Wenchang Bayin and Wuchang Bayin. In the performance form, it is expressed in the form of ensemble, mainly including sitting and walking. In terms of music function, it is mainly used for folk and folk activities such as the completion of new folk houses, weddings, funerals, birthday celebrations, opening ceremonies, festivals, and welcoming guests. It also accompanies dragon dance, lion dance, folk opera, and dance. It also performs on the stage of mass literature and art. The music has rich expressive force, strong artistic vitality, and is deeply loved by the people.
