Applicant: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
Cheung Chau Tai Ping Ching Festival is a traditional folk ceremony held regularly at the North emperor temple on Cheung Chau Island in Hong Kong.
Taiping qingjiao, also known as "qingjiao", "Dajiao" and "Qian qingjiao", is a folk religious activity evolved from traditional Taoist rituals.
The Taiping qingjiao Festival is held in April of the lunar calendar every year. The main contents of the two activities are grabbing Baoshan and piaose parade.
During the Taiping qingjiao Festival, three bamboo sheds were set up in front of the northern emperor's temple to form a Baoshan with a height of more than 10 meters. Each Baoshan was hung with about 16000 lotus buns with red "Shou" characters, also known as "Ping'an Bao". Qiangbaoshan is usually held on the last night of Taiping qingjiao. After the village head's order, the players went up Baoshan to fight for baozi. It is said that the more steamed stuffed buns you get, the more lucky you will be, so the competition is fierce. The steamed buns will be distributed to other residents. Floating color parade, the crowd; lion dance, jubilant and enthusiastic.
More than a hundred years ago, the activity was organized by the residents who were enthusiastic about participating in the ceremony. Since 2004, the "Hong Kong Cheung Chau Taiping qingjiao Council" has been established as a permanent organization of activities, with the support of the Hong Kong SAR government.
The project is of great significance for inheriting the fine traditions of the Chinese nation and enhancing Chinese cultural identity.
