Pian Zi Huang was founded in the Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty (1522-1566), and has a history of nearly 500 years. In the 34th year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty (1555), an imperial doctor of emperor Shizong of Ming Dynasty fled from the capital because he was dissatisfied with the imperial court. He went to Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, and became a monk in pushanyan temple in the eastern suburb of Zhangzhou. He hung a pot to help the world. He refined the tablet with royal formula and unique technology, which can be used both externally and orally. Because of its remarkable curative effect, a small piece can be cut to eliminate swelling and pain ("Huang" is Minnan dialect, which means heat toxin swelling and pain), so it is named "pianzi Huang". It has the functions of anti-inflammatory, detoxification and analgesia. Its main treatment range has also been expanded from surgical sore to the treatment of hepatobiliary diseases. For hundreds of years, Pian Zihuang moved overseas with Zhangzhou people to Nanyang.

In 1992, Pianzihuang was listed as a top secret State Key Protected Traditional Chinese medicine preparation by the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine and the State Security Bureau.
