Brief introduction of Chinese fashion making skills (Hengsheng Fengbang tailoring skills)

Applicant: Jing'an District, Shanghai

Hengsheng Fengbang tailoring skill Fengbang tailoring originated in 1794, which has a history of more than 200 years. In the first year of Daoguang (1821), "Fuchang" Fengbang tailor shop was born in Shanghai. After that, "Wang Rongtai" (1891), "Hechang" (1896), "rongchangxiang" (1910) and other Fengbang tailor shops opened one after another. Up to now, Fengbang tailors have made great contributions to the formation and prosperity of Chinese costume culture.

"Hengsheng" was founded by Feng Gang tailor Xu Jisheng in 1929, and his eldest son Xu Yuzhang inherited his father's career. Xu's father and son constantly innovate to form the characteristics of Fengbang. In history, it was famous in Shanghai for the improvement of Zhongshan suit, the original self-cultivation and sleeve wrapping, and the fashionable and straight style of Fengbang Hengsheng, which established Hengsheng's leading and pillar position in Fengbang tailors and became one of the most famous Fengbang shops in Shanghai.

The handcraft of Hengsheng Fengbang is inherited by words and deeds between teachers and apprentices, and can only be mastered by understanding and feeling. During the production, we pay attention to "four skills" (knife skill, chariot skill, hand skill and ironing skill) to achieve "nine skills" (threatening, fat, nest, edge, concave, warping, remaining, round and bending) and "Sixteen characters" (flat, clothing, smooth, straight, round, climbing, standing, full, thin, loose, even, soft, flexible, light, nest and edge). Our works are not only practical clothing but also handicrafts. Heng Sheng's tailoring skills are the essence and representative of "tailoring the tailors". They have very high declared areas or units: the historical and cultural values of Jingan District, Shanghai.
