Applicant: Chaohu City, Anhui Province
Chaohu City is located in the middle of Anhui Province, surrounded by the Jinjiang River and the lake. There is a "Hexian ape man" site 300-400 thousand years ago, which proves that it was once one of the birthplaces of Chinese culture. Along with the ancient history of Chaohu, Chaohu folk songs have gone through a process of evolution from simplicity to complexity, from singleness to diversity, and have been sung up to now.
Chaohu people love singing and composing folk songs. The creative form of "Wangfeng cailiu" enables intelligent singers to sing whatever they see, where they go, and what they do. Chaohu folk songs can be divided into three categories: Haozi, folk songs and ditty, with complete varieties and rich contents.
After 1949, Chaohu folk songs have been more widely spread. In March 1955, Chaohu folk song "sister in law vs. flowers" was sung to Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai, Beijing by Hu Jiying and Liu Hongying, who were warmly received by Mao Zedong and other first generation leaders of the party and the country. Over the years, the relevant departments have collected more than 1000 original folk songs, and more than 500 of them have been included in various song collections. Among them, 111 have been included in the collection of Chinese folk songs (Anhui volume), 20 have been included in 100 Anhui folk songs, more than 30 have been included in middle school textbooks and textbooks of Shanghai Conservatory of music and Central Conservatory of music, and more than 20 have been recorded by Shanghai record company and released at home and abroad, and presented to UNESCO for retention. The representative repertoire of Chaohu folk songs include "sister-in-law to flowers", "shouting Yangge", "Sister Liu", "frightening the eagle" and so on. Chaohu folk song creation, singing activities have been continuous, in the province, the national performance activities in many awards, occupies an important position in Anhui folk songs.
