Lu brocade is a textile of Shandong Province. It is woven with colored cotton thread in warp and weft. Because of its gorgeous geometric patterns, it is called "Lu Brocade". It is commonly known as "native cloth" and "coarse cloth" in Southwest Shandong. Lu brocade weaving skills are mainly distributed in Jining, Heze and the surrounding areas of Shandong Province, especially juancheng county and Jiaxiang County of Jining City.
Lu brocade in juancheng county began in Yuan Dynasty. Lu brocade in Puzhou (now juancheng County, Shandong Province) in Qing Dynasty was used as tribute. Juancheng County Lu brocade is interwoven into various geometric patterns with color lines, and through the parallel, repetition, continuity, interval, contrast and other changes of geometric patterns, it forms a unique rhythm and rhythm. The patterns are exquisite and elegant, the colors are gorgeous, the varieties are various, the texture is fine, comfortable and durable. Its unique hand jacquard weaving process and strong color contrast patterns are obviously different from those of other areas in Shandong Province, with distinctive local characteristics.
In the long years, the dexterous juancheng peasant women have been innovating and improving the weaving technology of Lu brocade, gradually forming a unique style of modern Lu brocade, which integrates jacquard, patterning and cross stitch technology, showing gorgeous in the thick, and fine in the rough. Lu brocade used to be used as dowry, which greatly enhanced the local wedding customs.
Jiaxiang County produced silkworms as early as the spring and Autumn period, and the textile industry was very developed. After the Yuan Dynasty, cotton was planted in a large area in Shandong Province. The people of Jiaxiang applied the traditional silk weaving techniques to cotton weaving techniques, forming a folk cotton brocade. There are 72 weaving processes of Lu brocade in Jiaxiang County, among which warp, weaving and weaving are the most important. Lu brocade weaving in Jiaxiang County can be dyed into 22 kinds of color lines and weave about 2000 kinds of patterns. Lu brocade in Jiaxiang County has beautiful patterns, various kinds and auspicious meanings. It is made of natural raw materials and hand-made. It is comfortable, environmentally friendly and widely used. It has strong practical value.
