Birch bark production technology (Ewenki birch bark production technology) Introduction:
Applicant: Genhe City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
Ewenki nationality is a typical forest nationality. In Daxing'anling area where they live, there are many birch forests with luxuriant branches and leaves, which provide rich production resources for Birch Bark products.
Ewenki birch bark production technology has a unique production method. The first step is to choose the raw material of birch bark. May and June is the best season to peel birch. Firstly, the tree with straight trunk, glossy surface and no scar should be selected; secondly, the length of the birch should be measured according to the needs of the utensils, and then the birch bark will peel off with a knife in the middle. After peeling off the uneven hard skin inside the birch bark, the birch bark can be softened by boiling or steaming, so that it can be cut; thirdly, the birch bark can be piled up and flattened, and cut according to the needs. The joints are usually sewn with the tendons of roe deer and deer, or with the threads of horsetail and hemp; finally, the joints are coated with animal oil and baked with fire to make them firm. After more than ten processes, such as cutting, weaving, matching, pricking and pressing, Birch Bark products with flexible texture, soft color, anti-corrosion and moisture resistance, various styles and durability can be made.
Birch bark making technique of Ewenki nationality is a precious national treasure. It inherits the excellent tradition of its ancestors for more than 3000 years and becomes the symbol of Ewenki nationality culture. It has the research value of ethnology, history and culture, and the history of national handicraft.
