Introduction to Shu brocade weaving techniques:
Applicant: Chengdu City, Sichuan Province
Chengdu is known as "the land of abundance", and the handicraft of brocade weaving has lasted for more than 2000 years. The so-called Shu Brocade refers to the brocade made in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. The earliest written records can be found in the reign of King Huiwen of the state of Qin in the spring and Autumn period. During the Warring States period, Shu Brocade had become an important trade product. It flourished in the Qin and Han Dynasties, flourished in the Tang and Song Dynasties, declined in the late Ming Dynasty, recovered in the middle and late Qing Dynasty, and fell into crisis again in modern times. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Shu Brocade was once brilliant, but with the progress of industrialization, hand-made looms were gradually replaced by modern looms, showing a trend of shrinkage and decline.
Shu brocade weaving technology, which is integrated with Hualou loom, has been adhering to the ancient tradition from pattern design, cross stitch and knot to the cooperative production of flower drawing workers and weavers. Later, the shuttle loom, which replaced the traditional brocade, had the same technical principle.
Sichuan brocade is a typical skill of Chengdu. Chengdu is famous as "Jincheng" and "Jinguan city" for its rich brocade. The Minjiang River is surrounded by Chengdu, and Shu Brocade is washed in the river, so Minjiang River is also called "Jinjiang River". Shu Brocade is rooted in Shu culture and has distinct regional characteristics. As early as the Qin, Han and Three Kingdoms period, Shu brocade has gone out of Sichuan and entered minority areas, contributing to economic development, social stability and national unity. As a carrier of cultural exchange and trade, it has witnessed the history and has unique cultural value in the world-famous north-south "Silk Road". It is urgent to take practical measures to ensure the inheritance of Shu brocade. I hope relevant parties will pay attention to it.
