Introduction to folk embroidery (Yangxin cloth paste)
Applicant: Yangxin County, Hubei Province
Folk embroidery, also known as "needle embroidery", "tie flower" and "embroidery", is also known as "needlework" because it is mostly done by women. It is a kind of traditional folk craft, in which a needle is used to pierce the colored thread on the fabric to form a specific pattern or character. Folk embroidery products are indispensable gifts and decorations in folk activities. It has a long history and is closely related to the daily life of ordinary people. Since ancient times, there has been a saying that "whose daughter is skillful depends on the needle and thread". Folk embroidery has a wide range of themes, rich cultural connotation, and spread all over the north and south of the river, inside and outside the Great Wall. In Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan and Beijing, folk embroidery has developed creatively and formed different regional styles.
Yangxin cloth paste is a popular folk cloth art in Yangxin County, Hubei Province. As a local handicraft inherited from generation to generation, there is no written record of the origin and evolution of Yangxin cloth paste. According to the lineage inherited by his mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, it has a history of at least 200 years. Yangxin cloth paste belongs to folk practical art, and its technology and products are widely used. According to rough statistics, it has nearly 30 varieties, from children's clothing to wedding clothes, from daily wear to temple utensils, there is no lack of cloth stickers. Yangxin cloth pastes mostly use black or dark blue cloth as the bottom cloth, while the bright colored cloth pastes flowers on it. The finished product has the intuitive effect of black paint and gold, and the contrast of color and lightness is extremely strong. The composition of cloth paste is free and casual, and heaven and earth, mountain birds and water people gather in the same picture. The performance does not seek to be similar in shape. Every time the composition is freehand by exaggeration and deformation, it is full of strong local flavor, showing the distinctive characteristics of Chu culture. In addition, Yangxin cloth stickers also use meticulous embroidery technology to blend colors and enrich the charm of large pieces of stickers. The exquisite embroidery patterns, the "folding" and the fine needle and thread around the edge fully reflect the unique ingenuity of folk artists.
