Zhangpu, Fujian Province is adjacent to the Taiwan Strait in the East, Dongshan and Shantou in the south, Zhangzhou and Xiamen in the north. The folk paper-cut here has a long history and unique characteristics, and has won the title of "hometown of paper-cut" for Zhangpu.

Since the Tang and Song Dynasties, paper cutting has been very popular among the people in Zhangpu. Zhangpu paper-cut is mainly made of Yang scissors, supplemented by Yin scissors. The composition is full and the style is delicate and elegant. Zhangpu paper-cut shows its unique characteristics in the aspects of the continuity of composition, the delicacy of techniques, the diversity of styles and the adaptability to changes.

Zhangpu paper-cut has the research value of folk art history and folk culture history, and also plays a certain role in the cultivation of national aesthetic fashion. Now, Zhangpu paper-cut has formed four creative echelons: the old, the middle, the young and the young, showing a diversified artistic style. Paper cutting artists are often invited to give lectures and demonstrations all over the world, making contributions to promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries.

However, at present, Zhangpu paper-cut practitioners are relatively not many, compared with the past, there is a gradually decreasing trend. The future of inheritance is worrying and needs to be protected urgently.
