Fengxiang County, located in the west of Guanzhong Plain, Shaanxi Province, is a well-known woodblock New Year picture production area in China. According to the records of Tai's ancestor case in nanxiaoli village, Fengxiang County, two years ago, the Tai family had eight families engaged in the production of New Year pictures, which has been handed down for 20 generations. By 1950, there were more than 690 kinds of woodcut New Year pictures in Fengxiang, which were divided into five categories: door painting, ten beauty painting, custom painting, drama and story painting, and Shenma painting. At its peak, the annual sales reached 6 million pieces. Fengxiang woodcut New Year pictures are all hand carved, printed by local methods, partially hand painted, dyed and filled with gold and silver, with strong color contrast and full and exaggerated shape, retaining the simple and natural artistic style of ancient New Year pictures. It has been popular in Shaanxi, Gansu, Ningxia, Qinghai and Sichuan for hundreds of years, and is deeply loved by the people.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Fengxiang New Year pictures were on the verge of extinction. After 1978, Tai Yi, the third generation inheritor of Xifeng Shixing painting Bureau, presided over the establishment of Fengyi New Year Painting Society, which excavated, sorted, studied and copied the ancient folk prints, and restored the ancient folk traditional art of Fengxiang woodcut New Year Painting. After 1984, Tai Liping, the eldest son of Tai Yi, took over the charge of Fengyi New Year Painting Society and continued to fight for the rescue and protection of Fengxiang woodcut New Year paintings. With the efforts of Tai Liping, two volumes of Fengxiang woodblock New Year pictures were published. Shaanxi Provincial Department of culture, Shaanxi Provincial Federation of literary and art circles and Shaanxi Provincial Association of folk artists and artists have awarded the second, third and fourth generation hosts of Xifeng Shixing painting Bureau Tai Shiqin, Tai Yi and Tai Liping the title of Shaanxi folk New Year Painting family.

At present, there are only a few people who can make new year pictures in Northwest China, while Tai Liping is the only one who can engage in creation and research. The inheritance and continuation of Tai's Woodcut New Year pictures in Fengxiang are facing a crisis and need urgent rescue and protection.
