Sanbang drum, also known as "Huagu" or "xihuagu", is a local folk art popular in Xuanen of Hubei Province and Youshui valley of Hunan Hubei border region. It has a long history and profound artistic tradition.

The performance of three stick drums is usually performed by three people, one singing while playing sticks (or throwing knives), and the other two playing drums and gongs. The libretto is mainly composed of "five five seven five" sentence pattern, rhyme, antithesis, Bi Xing and other rhetorical devices. The singing tune is a single style, with 2 / 4 beat, four sentences in a cycle, and between sentences and paragraphs played by gongs and drums. The acrobatic elements, such as throwing knives and playing sticks, are perfectly combined with oral rap, which is of great aesthetic value.
