Singing news, also known as "gonggushu", is a kind of ancient folk art widely spread in Xiangshan County, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, and the surrounding Beilun, Yinzhou and other places. The reason why it is called "singing news" is that most of the content is current events. Among them, Xiangshan's singing news is performed with Xiangshan's local tune, which mostly reflects the local customs. Therefore, it is also called "Xiangshan's singing news" or "news" for short.

The performance of singing news is mixed with talking and singing, mainly singing. Most of the lyrics are seven character sentences, but there are also long and short sentences, and double sentences rhyme. There are two kinds of performances: one for one and two for two. In a stand up performance, the artist holds a small gong and bamboo board in his left hand, a drumstick and a piece of gongs (bamboo) in his right hand, and a small waist drum on his left leg. Sometimes he rappes while singing, sometimes after a period of singing, he rappes the gongs and drums for a while, and then goes on rapping. In a stand up performance, one person is the main player, and he rappes the drumsticks himself, while the other accompanies. Generally speaking, gongs and drums are played before the performance to attract the audience, which is commonly known as "naochang". At the beginning of the performance, four or six lines of libretto are sung, which is called "Book hat", and then the performance of "Zhengshu", which is mainly composed of singing and interlocution, is performed.

There are many tunes used to sing news, which are formed by absorbing various local tunes. In Ningbo area, including Xiangshan area, more singing tunes are used. In addition to the basic tunes "news tune", there are "Zhenhai tune", "Ci tune", "Fu tune" and so on. In addition to the long and medium-sized "official script" or "official script", such as "shuanglanying", "Wu Yulin", "riyueqin", "spiked shoes", "cages", "huanjinbangle", "baiyuzai", "yaogouji", "jieyuanyang", "yuanbaoji", "Yangjiajiang" and Xiangshan's unique "hanging hair circle", the traditional programs also sing "opening" before the official script Book ", such as" health "," gambling "," Bachelor tune "," mangtoutiao wife "and so on.

Since the late 1980s, there have been fewer and fewer people watching the news, and many artists have changed careers to find another way out.
