The basic motif (Synopsis) of the legend of white horse dragging reins is: it is said that a firewood chopping boy gathered firewood for a rich man and met an old man on his way to get warm. The young man poured firewood on the old man. The old man gave him a paper horse in return. The paper horse turned into a white horse to help the young man carry charcoal when he encountered a snowstorm. When the rich man learned about it, he wanted to take it as his own and was kicked to the ground by the white horse. Chai Chai Lang rode off on a white horse. So far, there is no grass on the ridge where the rein drags, and there are some ringing stones scattered.

"White horse dragging reins" is a traditional folk story of "repaying kindness", which is widely spread in Jincheng, Shanxi Province. It was recorded in the old records of Zezhou Prefecture and Jincheng county. In the long process of development and evolution, from the motif of "repaying kindness" and "white horse sacrificing his life for righteousness", a series of stories with the same content but different plots and characters were gradually attached and derived. Especially after they were connected with the local Baima temple mountain and Baima Chan temple, a traditional folk story merged the local mountains, temples and other scenery, and changed into a folk story As a local legend group, it reflects the color of Buddhist culture to a certain extent.
