Violin opera is a kind of opera with unique local characteristics in Chongyang County, Hubei Province. It is gradually developed and formed on the basis of the combination of Liangshan tune, Chongyang local minor and folk music in Southeast Hubei, Northern Hunan, northern Jiangxi and other regions. It is named because it mainly plays violin. Violin is a kind of national musical instrument made of snake skin, bamboo tube and pear wood. It looks like erhu. However, the two string axes on the upper part are respectively installed on both sides of the rod, and the lower part is fixed with the tube. The player holds the rod with a tiger mouth and holds the tube to his waist. Standing still, he can pull it.

The banqiang music of violin play is divided into two parts: Zhengqiang and Xiaodiao. Zhengqiang includes zhengdiao, yizidiao, yindiao, Tuozi, Xihu Diao and Fandiao, which are composed of two phrases. The performance band of a violin play is different from that of a civil and military arena. Originally, it was composed of four members, namely "shangshou", "Jiashou", "drummer" and "Xiaogong". Shangshou played the main accompaniment task, playing the first violin and playing suona at the same time; "Jiashou" assisted accompaniment, playing the second violin and playing gongs and drums at the same time; "drummer" played all percussion instruments except Xiaogong; Xiaogong was an apprentice, Responsible for playing gongs and checking in.

In the early stage of violin performance, the roles mainly include Laosheng, Xiaosheng, Naisheng, Zhengdan, Huadan, guimendan, Podan and clown. They are called "Sansheng, Sidan and Yichou". Among them, the clown also plays Yaodan and Jingjiao. There is a saying that "seven tight and eight loose" among the people. There are many kinds of violin plays, including Wujin, lantern, Sanbao, qingfengting, Liuyi going to the sea and other dramas, as well as zhangguangbai's birthday and Tuozi's return to the door. Some of them are unique, such as lantern, dahuajing and bubeidai, which are very rare in other dramas.

Violin opera is a unique branch of Chinese opera garden, which has the research value of local opera history and folk music. Since 1994, Chongyang County has held six consecutive violin drama festivals, which have been highly praised by provincial and municipal leaders and experts. On this basis, the "Violin drama development foundation" was established. Since 2000, the county government has allocated a special fund of 20000 yuan for the training, protection and development of the violin drama troupe.
