Xuzhou Bangzi is a kind of opera with distinctive local characteristics, which is formed by the combination of Northern Jiangsu folk tunes, juggling, local rap and Shanshan Bangzi introduced into Xuzhou. It is mainly spread in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. The earliest recorded Bangzi troupes in Xuzhou include "Jiangmen" (Jiang Huajia), "yinmen" (Yin fengzhe), and "tenggongsheng Troupe" and "daijinshan Troupe". Jiang Yunxia, a famous actor of Jiangsu Bangzi troupe, is the eighth generation successor of "Jiangmen".

In terms of mode, melody, rhythm, language and singing style, Xuzhou Bangzi not only has the characteristics of rigidity and strength of northern operas, but also has the charm of mildness and softness of Southern operas. Its singing music belongs to banqiang style, which is mainly composed of "adagio", "Liushui", "Erba" and "non Banzi", and then derives from the Banzi, Zaiban, Yingfeng, jinguao and daosanbo. In addition, there are more than 200 music tunes, among which the suona is particularly popular. These tunes are mainly used for singing and dancing accompaniment, but also can be used to create a dramatic atmosphere, foil the character's psychology. Xuzhou Bangzi has a complete line of business, with detailed division of labor among Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou. Among them, black face and red face sing with the combination of true and false voice, which has the characteristics of high pitched, passionate, honest and strong.

There are many operas of Xuzhou Bangzi, including more than 600 traditional operas and more than 200 new historical and modern operas. Among these plays, dramas and tragedies that depict major historical events, reflect political and military struggles, and show the achievements of heroes are the most prominent, among which the commonly known "four major signs", "four major guillotines" and "eighteen new and old books" are the representative works.
