Introduction to Dacheng Opera:
Applicant: Quanzhou City, Fujian Province
Dacheng opera, also known as "ritual opera", "monk opera" and "Taoist opera", is a local opera developed on the basis of the ritual of monks and Taoists in the middle of Qing Dynasty. It is popular in Quanzhou and Jinjiang of Fujian Province. Dacheng opera has the nature of both dramatic performance and folk religious ceremony, and it is attached to folk religious activities such as "doing merit". Its performance skills are very strong and unique. There are many kinds of special effects, such as overlapping, eating fire and spitting fire, throwing beard, shaking hair, Beng dance, black and white ghost dance, fork dance, flag dance and so on. There are high requirements for the skills of the actors. For example, when performing the table flip dance, the actors have to hold 11 eggs in their hands, armpits, mouth and neck, turn down from the top of the table and stand on the bench. Due to various complicated reasons, Dacheng opera tends to be gradually assimilated by other operas. The phenomenon of repertoire loss and brain drain is becoming more and more serious. The whole opera is in an endangered state and needs to be protected.
