Introduction to Huagu Opera (Changsha Huagu Opera)

Changsha Huagu opera was formed in the Qing Dynasty, popular in central Hunan, eastern Hunan and Dongting Lake. In the middle of the 20th century, different ways of Huagu opera gradually merged due to frequent artistic exchanges, and the stage language was unified with Changsha Mandarin, forming a relatively complete variety of Huagu opera in Changsha. There are more than 200 tunes in Sichuan tune, Da Luo tune, brand and minor tune. Traditional plays are characterized by performing "two little" (Xiaodan, clown) and "three little" (Xiaosheng, Xiaodan, clown). His plays, such as Ximai case, village police and zuotan man also romantic, have won many national awards.

In the contemporary era, the audience of Huagu opera in Changsha is shrinking, the performance venues are gradually lost, the talent of performance is broken, and the main creative team is shrinking. In 2009, Hunan Provincial People's government listed Changsha Huagu opera as a provincial intangible cultural heritage, and Hunan Huagu Opera Theater as the protection unit. In order to carry forward the characteristic culture of Hunan and further excavate, protect and inherit Changsha Huagu opera, Hunan Huagu theater will do its best to protect and inherit this wonderful art and contribute to the development and expansion of national culture.
