Introduction to Yongju Opera:

Ningbo opera is a kind of local opera performed in Ningbo Dialect of Zhejiang Province. Its distribution area was concentrated in Yinxian and Fenghua in the early stage, and then gradually spread throughout the whole Ningbo area and Zhoushan area. With the change of the play types, Yongju has experienced several development periods, such as male Xiaodan, female Xiaodan and improved Yongju. Before the founding of new China, Ningbo opera was quite active in Shanghai, Ningbo and other places, and many performing groups appeared. After 1938, this kind of opera was officially called "Yongju" or "improved Yongju".

There are many tunes in Yongju opera, including "basic tunes" and "Siming nanci" evolved from rural Tiantou folk song, Duishan folk song and singing news, and "fast Erhuang", "slow Erhuang" tunes and some local minor tunes brought by Luantan class. "Basic tone" is mainly used to narrate the plot, "Siming South Ci" is mainly used to express the feelings of the characters, "Erhuang" is mainly used to express high and passionate emotions, and minor is used to express some special emotions. In the past 50 years, all kinds of tunes have crossed and merged to form some new comprehensive tunes.

Yongju opera is suitable for performing qingzhuang opera, suit and cheongsam opera in 1930s and modern opera. It is very close to real life. Its traditional operas such as half a pair of scissors, tianyaoluoyuniang wants to marry, shuangyuchan, modern operas such as WangKun and liangyange have excellent performance in reflecting reality and are welcomed by the audience.

At present, there is a declining trend in Yongju opera. There is only one professional performing troupe in Ningbo, which is in urgent need of protection and support.
