28 are famous towns in Western Zhejiang, known as the "throat of eight Min" and "lock key of Fengxi". The puppet show was introduced from Jiangxi Province in Ming Dynasty and passed on for 18 generations in the form of apprenticeship. Before liberation, 28 puppet troupes were active in Xianxia mountain area on the border of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces. The twenty eight capital puppet show has a long history. It has preserved some puppet heads and props of Ming and Qing Dynasties, handwritten scripts of traditional puppets and Yiyang Gaoqiang rhyme. It is of great significance and value to study ancient drama forms, performing arts, singing, opera customs and drama development history. The popular plays include the book of honest and upright officials, the mouth of Jiulong Valley, breaking the flood, etc.

At present, there is only one Puppet Troupe in the border area of Zhejiang, Fujian and Jiangxi. The artists are old and rare, and there are few young people learning puppet opera. There are no successors and they are on the verge of extinction. In order to better rescue and protect the excellent folk art, the local government decided to increase the investment, publicity and protection work in the next five years, so that this ancient folk art can continue to inherit and carry forward.
