Introduction to Zhuang Opera

Yunnan Zhuang Opera is mainly spread in Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. It has three branches: Funing tuxi, Guangnan Shaxi and Wenshan Lexi tuxi. Each branch has different origins. Among them, Funing local opera has been formed for more than 300 years. The earliest singing form of Yunnan Zhuang Opera originated from Funing local opera; Guangnan Sha opera and Wenshan Lexi local opera were formed in the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty.

Based on the integration of Zhuang folk songs, dance, music, rap, folk stories and other art forms, Yunnan Zhuang Opera constantly absorbs the advantages of foreign dramas, and after a long period of development, it has become a mature local opera. In the most solemn "LONGDUAN Festival" of the Zhuang nationality, Zhuang Opera is a must show. There is a saying that "there must be opera in LONGDUAN, and there is no opera without LONGDUAN".

Yunnan Zhuang Opera embodies the spiritual pursuit, ideal belief and value orientation of the Zhuang people in Yunnan. Its repertoire involves daily life, festivals, weddings, funerals and other aspects of the local Zhuang people, just like an encyclopedia of Yunnan Zhuang society. Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture is located in the border area. Various foreign cultures influence the local people's thoughts in tangible or intangible ways. The special value of Zhuang Opera in Yunnan lies in the consolidation of cultural concepts and customs of the Chinese nation through artistic performances full of national emotion and national style.
