Introduction to Anhui Opera:

Applicant: Anhui Province

Hui opera is an important local opera tune, which is mainly popular in Anhui Province and Wuyuan County of Jiangxi Province. In the late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty, Luantan tune was introduced into Anhui Province. It was combined with local tune and folk music to form a Pozi in Shipai, Zongyang and Tongcheng of Anqing Prefecture. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, the Tuzi and Siping tunes gradually merged into the Erhuang tunes. Erhuang tune and Hubei xipi form a pihuang ensemble, which lays the foundation of Hui opera.

The music singing of Hui opera can be divided into Hui Kun, Chui Qiang, Pizi, Erhuang, xipi, Huaqiang minor and so on. Huikun mainly plays martial arts opera, mostly using suona, gongs and drums, with grand momentum; the tune has both Qupai and banqiang forms, mainly playing flute and small suona instruments; the Pizi uses zaomubang to strike the festival, accompanied by suona, flute and Huihu; the Erhuang mainly plays Huihu instruments, including guide plate, yuanban, Huilong, Liushui and so on; xipi has Wenwu guide plate, Sanban, Yaoban, Erliu and so on, Huihu is also used as the main musical instrument; coloratura minor is mostly folk music with rich flavor of life. The roles of Hui opera include Mo, Sheng, Xiao Sheng, Wai, Dan, tie, Jing, Chou and so on. Their performances are fiery, vigorous, and their movements are rough. They are especially good at martial arts, such as turning platform, jumping circle, darting fire, flying fork, rolling lamp, changing face and so on.

There are many traditional repertoires of Hui opera, among which the main repertoire of Hui Kun Opera is martial arts, such as "seven capture Menghuo", "eight battle formations", "Badaling", "heroic righteousness", "daotongqi" and "white deer blood"; the repertoire of Kunyi opera includes "Zhaojun leaving the fortress", "Guifei getting drunk" and "Lu gags"; the repertoire of Qiqu opera and Pizi opera includes "QianLiJu", "shuangheyin", "Fenghuangshan" and "MUCI" Xipi plays include zhanfancheng and let Chengdu; pihuang plays include Longhudou, fanzhaoguan, yuyufeng and huatiancuo; Huaqiang plays include Lida Dageng and visiting relatives to scold each other.

Hui opera has a history of more than 300 years, and has played an important role in the development of Chinese opera. It not only gave birth to Beijing opera, but also has a close blood relationship with dozens of local operas in North and South China. At the same time, Huizhou opera is also an important part of Huizhou culture. It reflects many characteristics of Huizhou culture and even Chinese traditional culture in an intuitive way, which is worthy of further study. But at present, Hui opera is facing the danger of "cutting off the variety". The actors are aging, the inheritance is lacking, the funds are tight, and the employees are less and less. Now we must start with the protection of the old artists and carry out the rescue, excavation and sorting of Hui Opera. Otherwise, we will miss the good opportunity and cause great regret.
