Peking Opera is a kind of pihuang opera with a history of more than 200 years. Hubei became the birthplace of "Pi Huang" by virtue of its unique geographical location, and then created the Han Opera (Han Opera) of "Pi Huang ensemble", which was called "Han Opera", "Chu opera" and "Chu opera" in Qing Dynasty. After that, Han Opera artists brought the music, performance and repertoire of Han Opera into Hui troupe, forming a performance pattern of "ban Yue Hui ban, Diao Yue Han Diao". In the long-term performance practice, the Han tune with the characteristics of xipi and Erhuang, huidiao with the characteristics of Qiqiang and Pizi, Kunqu Opera, Qinqiang Opera (Bangzi Opera), northern quyi, folk music tunes and so on were integrated, and finally evolved into Beijing opera. In the early stage of Peking Opera, Hubei artists Mi Yingxian, Yu Sansheng and Tan Xinpei made important contributions to the development of this kind of opera.
At the end of the 19th century, Peking Opera went south and became popular in Wuhan. Since then, it has been one of the important cities for Peking opera performance. In 1950, the Central South Peking Opera Troupe was established and later renamed "Wuhan Peking Opera Troupe".
