Introduction to Beilu Bangzi

Beilu Bangzi, also known as Shanglu opera, is one of the four major Bangzi in Shanxi Province. It is mainly popular in Datong, Shuozhou, Xinzhou, Inner Mongolia and parts of Hebei Province. In the early Qing Dynasty, Puzhou Bangzi went northward and took root in Xinzhou. Its traditional plays mainly include Wang Baochuan, Da Jinzhi, suanliang, jinshuiqiao, kudian, zhehuangbao, xueshouyin, qimeian, butterfly cup, zheshiwang, interview Baipao, Huilongge, jiuqiyi, and Yang Bajie's spring outing.

The singing structure of Beilu Bangzi belongs to banqiang, including adagio, Jiaban, Erxing, Duoban, Liushui, Sanxing, Daoban, gunbai, Jieban and Huaqiang. Traditional accompaniment instruments can be divided into Wenchang and Wuchang. Wenchang instruments are composed of BANGHU, Erxian, Sanxian, Sixian, Sheng, flute and suona, while Wuchang instruments are composed of bangu, mahuo, cymbal, handgong, Bangzi, wardrum, Tanggu, Lingling and xiaoyingong. The singing of Beilu Bangzi is deeply influenced by Puzhou Bangzi. It has the characteristics of high pitched, vigorous, steady and rough. At the same time, combined with the local folk tune, it forms its own singing method, such as "kekeqiang". It has distinctive local characteristics, and fully reflects the simple, honest, forthright and generous character of the local working people.

In the study of the history of opera development and local culture, Beilu Bangzi has irreplaceable historical value. However, in the rapid development of modern society, Beilu Bangzi, like many local operas, has opened up a distance at the same time, which is gone forever. Beilu Bangzi has long been plagued by problems such as lack of inheritors and shrinking performance market. This ancient opera is looking forward to its rescue and protection.
