Its headquarter is located in Beijing and its registered capital is RMB 1.8 billion Yuan. The company was rated as class A in the comprehensive risk rating (Classified Supervision) evaluation of the Bank of China Insurance Regulatory Commission (formerly CIRC) in the fourth quarter of 2018. At present, the company has set up branches in Beijing, Xinjiang, Hebei, Sichuan and Tianjin.

The largest shareholder of China Life Insurance is China United Insurance Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Insurance), which was founded on July 15, 1986. It is the second state-owned holding insurance group with independent legal personality in China, and the only insurance group company named "China". At present, China Insurance's major shareholders include China Eastern Asset Management Co., Ltd., Liaoning Chengda Co., Ltd., China Motor Corporation Limited, Fubang Life Insurance Co., Ltd., etc.

China United Property Insurance Co., Ltd., the second largest shareholder of China Life Insurance, was established in 2006. It is a national property insurance company initiated by China United Insurance Group Co., Ltd., with a registered capital of 14.64 billion yuan. China property insurance has 32 branches nationwide, with more than 2500 business outlets and 40000 employees.

In November 2015, China Life Insurance officially opened.

In October 2016, the two branches in Beijing and Xinjiang were approved by the Bank of China Insurance Regulatory Commission (the former CIRC).

In 2017, two branches in Xinjiang and Beijing were opened.

In 2018, Shijiazhuang branch of Hebei Province opened.

In 2019, Sichuan branch and Tianjin Branch will open.
