Shaodian town

Shaodian town is located at the junction of Xinyi, Shuyang and Suyu at the north end of the northern Jiangsu Plain. It faces Shiling Town of Suyu County across Xinyi River. It is adjacent to Yanji town of Shuyang County in the East, Xindian Town, Wangzhuang Town and Shiji Town in the West and north respectively. It is about 8.5km wide from east to west and 7.5km long from south to north, covering an area of 58.49km2. Shaodian town has 14 administrative villages and 113 villager groups , 72 natural villages, 38031 people (2017).

With the rapid development of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and sideline fishery, the town has formed a new pattern of "2111" planting structure of "20000 mu chestnut, 10000 mu flowers, 10000 mu sericulture and 10000 mu vegetables", which is known as "the first town of chestnut in China Plain".

History and culture

Shaodian is an ancient town with thousands of years of history. According to the historical records of Shuyang and Suqian, it is said that it is the hometown of Wu Zixu and the birthplace of Yuji people. Shengshou temple in the north of the town's main street is one of the Eight Temples in Suqian. It is said that it was built by Dou Jiande in the early Tang Dynasty.
