Jiangnan Town was established in 1992, across the river from Cangxi County. It was established by the merging of the original towns of Shuishui, Miaoya and Zhaishan. In October 1994, Zhaishan was listed as a township separately. By 1996, the town had 2 offices, 165 villages, 7254 villagers' groups, 25944 people, including 12575 men and 13369 women. The non-agricultural population was 1482, covering an area of 68.85 square kilometers. Jiangnan New Development Zone is set up in the town governance center, covering an area of 4.5 mu. The building area of the office building is 1911 square meters, and the building area of the guest house and comprehensive service building is 768 square meters. The town governs 30 units. The river bank of Jialing River is 27 kilometers long. Cangjian road passes through the center, and the tractor road connects the village groups.

In April 2005, the administrative region of Jiangnan Town was merged into Lingjiang town.
