Xinxing township is under the jurisdiction of Hulin City. It is located in the east of the city, on the South Bank of Qihulin River, adjacent to Hutou town in the East. The township government is 60 kilometers away from the city. In 1972, some members moved from Weiguang commune and Dongfeng commune to build wasteland here. In September 1975, Xinxing people's commune was formally established. In March 1984, the government and society were separated and changed into Xinxing township. Xinxing township is high in the West and low in the East, belonging to swamp plain. There are four water pumping stations along the river for dry land irrigation and rice planting. The township covers a total area of 509 square kilometers, with 58000 mu of arable land. The main crops are wheat, soybean, corn and rice. The township has jurisdiction over Xinxing, Xinsheng, Xinwei, Xinli, Xinqing, Xingang and Xinping villages. At the end of 1992, the total population of the township was 2338, of which Manchu, Korean and other ethnic minorities accounted for about 5%. The township government is located in Xinxing village.
