Gaotai Town, subordinate to Meitan County, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, is located in the southwest of Meitan County, adjacent to chaole Township in the East, Sandu town of Zunyi County in the west, Xinnan Township and Maoping town in the south, and huangjiaba in the north. The town is about 25 kilometers away from the county. With a total area of 169 square kilometers, the town has jurisdiction over 30 administrative villages and 216 villager groups, with 28800 people living in more than 7230 households, including 6750 agricultural households, 27600 people, 200 ethnic minorities and 18700 labor force.

Among the 30 administrative villages, there are 18 first-class poor villages and 8 second-class poor villages, accounting for 60% and 26.7% respectively. There is no mineral resources in the town, which is a typical agricultural town. The natural condition is bad, the mountain is high, the slope is steep, the valley falls, the light is little, the temperature is low, all kinds of natural disasters are frequent. Restricted by geographical conditions, transportation is inconvenient, information is blocked and culture is backward. As a result, the economic conditions are poor, most of them are at the level of food and clothing, and they have no money to invest in production, infrastructure construction, secondary and tertiary industry construction. In addition, the traffic is not smooth, so it is difficult to form a large-scale industry.

Most of the poverty-stricken villages in Gaotai town suffer from frequent disasters in successive years. On average, there is a major drought and hail attack in one to three years. The valley is deep and large, and the light is insufficient. The diseases and pests of grain crops occur year after year. It is one of the provincial poor towns.

The main crops in the town are rice, corn, rape, flue-cured tobacco and pepper. The annual sown area is 52000 mu, of which 68.9% are grain crops, 32.1% are cash crops, and the multiple cropping index is 50.1%. The per capita grain production of farmers is 385kg. The town's animal husbandry is the main economic source, meat production, 62 tons of beef, 1170 tons of pork, 33 tons of mutton, 63 tons of chicken.
