The total area is 227.06 square kilometers. In late 2018, the number of registered residence in Fenghuang town was 44421. As of June 2020, Fenghuang town has jurisdiction over 2 communities and 27 administrative villages.

The Ming Dynasty belonged to Haiyang county. In July 1983, Chaozhou City was merged with Chaoan County. In April 1992, it was restored to Chaoan County. Fenghuang town is the hometown of Oolong tea in China. In June 2014, Fenghuang town was selected as "China's important agricultural cultural heritage". In 2016, Fenghuang town won the title of "China's excellent regional public brand of tea". In August 2017, Fenghuang town won the title of "national top ten charming tea town". On December 30, 2019, Fenghuang town was selected as one of the first batch of "tourism towns in Guangdong Province". In March 2020, Fenghuang town was awarded "health town in Guangdong Province".

Historical evolution

According to Chaozhou Fu Zhi and some genealogical records of surnames, during the Song Dynasty, about 800 years ago, frequent wars in the North forced some Han people to move southward to avoid chaos. These Han people came from Jiangxi, Fujian and other provinces. Along the mountain road, they gradually came to Fenghuang mountain, which is sparsely populated, mountainous and ownerless.
